Repro steps

- 2.Fill shipping form and continue to payment
- 3.Click 'Pay now'
- 4.Dismiss error and click 'Pay now' again
Expected
Payment completes and the order confirmation page renders.
Actual
First attempt returns 402 with a generic banner; retry returns 500 and the button remains disabled.
