Bug reportby SceneRecap AI
mediumVega-Lite bar mark compilation: the corner radius path for cornerRadiusEnd combined with binned timeUnit (binnedutcyearmonthdate) on a temporal x with bandPosition 0. Likely the x/x2 encoding or rect path generation when cornerRadiusEnd is non-zero.
os: macOSapp: Vega Editor (/editor)dpr: 1locale: en-USbrowser: Chromium 151.0.7922.34timezone: Europe/Berlinversions: Vega 6.4.0, Vega-Lite 6.5.0, Vega-Tooltip 1.1.0viewport: 1280x720
Repro steps
- 1.Open the Vega Editor in Vega-Lite mode. The default spec holds only the $schema line.
- 2.Click into the Spec editor.
- 3.Select all with Cmd+a and paste with Cmd+v. The pasted spec is a bar chart 500x280 with two values (2026-10-01: 100, 2026-10-02: 200), mark {type: bar, cornerRadiusEnd: 3}, x: field day, type temporal, timeUnit binnedutcyearmonthdate, bandPosition 0, y: field value, quantitative.
- 4.Observe the preview. Axes render but no bars are drawn.
- 5.Control: click the Spec editor, select all and paste the same spec with cornerRadiusEnd changed to 0.
- 6.Observe the preview. Both bars render at heights 100 and 200.
Expected
With cornerRadiusEnd: 3 the two bars render at values 100 and 200 with rounded end corners, as they do when cornerRadiusEnd is 0.
Actual
With cornerRadiusEnd: 3 the chart shows the axes, gridlines, the value axis (0 to 200) and the day axis labels, but no bars appear. Changing only cornerRadiusEnd to 0 makes both bars render.
Evidence
visualSpec visible in editor with "cornerRadiusEnd": 3 and "timeUnit": "binnedutcyearmonthdate" on x.
visualPreview renders axes with y domain 0 to 200 and x labels Sep 30, 2026 to Oct 02, 2026, but the plot area is empty with no bars.
visualPlot area is still empty with no bars while the cursor hovers over it.
consoleThe only console messages are validation warnings logged at load for the near-empty starting spec, such as "must have required property 'data'" and "DispatchingLogger: setState not initialized". No error is logged for the failing render.
visualAfter the second paste the editor shows "cornerRadiusEnd": 0. The rest of the spec is unchanged.
visualControl works: with cornerRadiusEnd 0, two blue bars render. One reaches 100 and spans from Sep 30 to Oct 01. One reaches 200 and spans from Oct 01 to Oct 02.
visualControl chart keeps rendering both bars through the end of the recording.

## Summary
A bar chart that uses `cornerRadiusEnd: 3` with `timeUnit: "binnedutcyearmonthdate"` on a temporal x axis renders no bars. The same spec with `cornerRadiusEnd: 0` renders correctly.
## Environment
- Vega 6.4.0, Vega-Lite 6.5.0, Vega-Tooltip 1.1.0 (Vega Editor)
- Chromium 151.0.7922.34, macOS, 1280x720, timezone Europe/Berlin
## Steps to reproduce
1. Open the Vega Editor in Vega-Lite mode (0s).
2. Paste this spec into the Spec editor (9.6s):
```json
{
"$schema": "https://vega.github.io/schema/vega-lite/v6.json",
"width": 500,
"height": 280,
"data": {"values": [
{"day": "2026-10-01", "value": 100},
{"day": "2026-10-02", "value": 200}
]},
"mark": {"type": "bar", "cornerRadiusEnd": 3},
"encoding": {
"x": {"field": "day", "type": "temporal", "timeUnit": "binnedutcyearmonthdate", "bandPosition": 0},
"y": {"field": "value", "type": "quantitative"}
}
}
```
3. Look at the preview (13s).
## Expected
Two bars at 100 and 200 with rounded end corners.
## Actual
Axes and gridlines render (y 0 to 200, x Sep 30, 2026 to Oct 02, 2026) but no bars are drawn (13s to 19s). No error is logged.
## Control (works)
The same spec with `"cornerRadiusEnd": 0` (pasted at 20.7s) renders both bars correctly (23s to 30.7s).
## Notes
The only console output is validation warnings from the empty starting spec at load (0s). These are unrelated.
