0. No extension? Upload a video

Prefer not to install anything? Sign in and open Record in the sidebar (/dashboard/record) to record a tab straight from the browser — same modes, same pipeline. It uses the browser’s own screen-capture dialog, so there is no click or console log; the extension stays the richer path when you want that evidence.

Sign in and open Library → Upload video (or /dashboard/upload). Drop any screen recording — QuickTime, OBS, a Loom export, a phone clip, a GIF or animated WebP from ScreenToGif or LICEcap (MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, GIF, WebP; up to your plan's length limit) — pick the AI mode, and it goes through exactly the same pipeline. The only difference: there is no interaction log, so the AI works from the pixels alone and evidence is visual only. Check the clip for passwords or personal data first; nothing is masked automatically in an uploaded file.

1. Install the extension

Add SceneRecap from the Chrome Web Store (or, for a development build, load apps/extension/dist as an unpacked extension at chrome://extensions). Pin it to the toolbar — you'll use it every time you record.

SceneRecap asks for the minimum: activeTab, tabs, tabCapture, storage, offscreen and scripting. It never records without you pressing the button.

2. Sign in

Enter your email on the dashboard; we send a single-use sign-in link (15-minute expiry). The extension connects to your account automatically the first time you open the dashboard after installing.

3. Record

Open the popup, choose an AI mode, optionally enable your microphone, and click Record this tab. Chrome shows a countdown and a recording indicator. Nothing you type is logged as text — but the video captures your screen as it is, so review it before uploading. Press the button again (or ⌘⇧R) to stop.

Tip: pick Bug Report when something is broken — it also collects console errors and failed requests so the AI can cite them as evidence.

4. Review and upload

The review page shows your clip. Give it a title (the AI will suggest a better one) and pick the mode. Nothing leaves your machine until you press Upload & analyze. You can also Save to disk at any time, even signed out.

5. Read the explanation

Processing takes roughly a minute for a 5-minute clip. The recording page has the player with chapters, and a right rail with the mode output, the reconstructed timeline, and the activity swimlane of every click and navigation. Timestamps everywhere are clickable.

6. Share, export, file

Share creates a link (public, unlisted, password, workspace-only, or specific emails). Export renders Markdown, HTML, PDF, DOCX or a GIF highlight, and copies issue-ready text for GitHub, Linear, Jira and Slack. With an integration connected, "File GitHub issue" is one click.
